Martin Hammond returns to CAMERIMAGE

Martin Hammond made a return trip to this year's CAMERIMAGE event in Poland. At the event he represented the British Cinematographer magazine and met several DoPs who will be included in future issues and on the British Cinematographer 'News in Focus' Postings over the coming weeks.

Wildscreen 2012

Martin Hammond was reappointed as exhibition manager for Wildscreen 2012, the world's largest wildlife film festival, with over 550 delegates from 45 different countries. He also ran the cinematography and lighting Master Class and supported the two underwater workshops at this prestigious event.

MJH Media back at Jackson Hole Technical Symposium and Science Media Awards

Martin returned to this year's Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival Technical Symposium which was held in Denver, Colorado, in early September. Martin, as part of the festival management team, co-ordinated 15 volunteers at this event to help with the setup and day-to-day running of it. In particular he oversaw the screenings of 15minute clips from each of the nominated programmes in a special cinema constructed for the 3 day festival. In addition he conducted twenty three 1-1 interviews with JHWFF board members, patrons, VIP guest speakers and delegates to ascertain their feedback on the benefits of the symposium and the Science Media awards initiative. This feedback will be compiled and results published in October on the JHWFF website.

Martin joined the production team at this year's Encounters Film Festival, held in Bristol in September. Martin again acted as VIP Guest Liaison Manager and co-ordinated the awards ceremony. The event had over 1900 short films in its library and over 250 of these were shown during the 5 day event across four cinemas. Hay on Film Event

Martin Hammond worked with Alan Trow BSC, founder of a new film school in Hay-on-Wye, as Producer for its inaugural weekend event 25-27 May 2012. Celebration of Film at the Tate Modern

A number of the industry's biggest players put on an event promoting the use of 35mm and Super 16mm film for origination. This one off, invitation only, event was aimed at 500 top Feature Film and high end TV Drama Directors and Producers and was held at the Tate Modern as part of the Tacita Dean Project, currently being exhibited there. The event was over-subscribed with 760 acceptances.
MJH Media was asked to work with the event sponsors to put on a 13min presentation highlighting some 66 the key films and dramas which have been recently originated on film.

Martin Hammond providing Career Advise to Students

Martin was invited by the University of the West of England (UWE) to give a talk to its emerging filmmaker students about potential career paths in the industry. The talk was held in Bristol on Wednesday 25 Jan 2012 at the St Matthias campus, Fishponds. The talk was well received and helped increase awareness of both current and future events within the industry as well as providing an in-site into traditional career paths within it.

Martin Hammond returns to Slapstick

Martin returned to this year's Slapstick Silent Comedy Film Festival which was held at the four regular locations in Bristol. Tribute to Adrian Warren, Wildlife Cinematographer

Martin Hammond provided a video tribute to the life and work of Adrian Warren who sadly passed away in July. Martin had worked with Adrian for more than 25 years supplying film stock and running training events for emerging film makers all across the UK and internationally. The video was used as part of a 50 minute documentary which was premiered at a private screening to 100+ family and friends at the Watershed Media Centre on Sunday 11th December. Subsequent to the presentation a potential broadcaster asked for an urgent meeting which was held the following week and the film is now being considered for broadcast in 2012.

CamerImage 2011

MJH Media returned for the 5th year with an Exhibition Stand at CamerImage in Poland. CamerImage is the largest annual gathering of Feature Film Cinematographers in the world. The Department of Trade and Industry supports the Event and Martin will be promoting British Companies, Products, Services, Media Personnel, the Craft Societies and Guilds throughout the week during the Workshops & Seminars and in the "UK Information Zone" Exhibition area. Martin will be working alongside Alan Lowne, Producer of British Cinematographer Magazine one of his key clients.

Martin Hammond recently returned for his 8th visit to this prestigious bi-annual event. This year he performed the roles of Exhibitions Manager, floor manager for several seminars and provided support to the main Events team. Martin Hammond was on the planning committee for this the third festival of British Cinema held in Hay-on-Wye in late September 2011. Classic films were shown, along with several Cinematography master class discussions, chaired by Alan Trow BSC (Festival chair). The keynote speaker was Marc Evans, Director. MJH Media instrumental in arranging a special screening of 'Tree of Life'

Martin Hammond arranged for Nigel Ashcroft, Producer of the wildlife, underwater and environmental 22 minute sequence of the Cannes Palm D'Or award winning feature film 'Tree of Life', to be present for a Q&A session following the full special screening of the film at the Watershed Media Centre in Bristol on Sunday 24th July. The event was a sell out with 60 industry guests and 140 members of the public attending.

Martin returned to Cannes again this year. He organised a reception for Image Forum guests on the Kodak Yacht, the Sunny Dream, on Monday 16th May. In his role as Image Forum chair he organised this reception in advance of the world premiere of 'Tree of Life' . ‘Behind the Lens’ Makeup and Camera Training Course

Following on from the successful seminar organised by BAFTA for the Birds Eye View FilmFestival, Martin Hammond was asked to become Production Manager for a new
course for the Christine Blundell Makeup Academy. This was run in
association with the BSC. Martin assisted with a two day workshop for
makeup designers and technicians on how to create effective hair and makeup
for varying film and digital formats.

BSC Show 2010

MJH Media played a key role in the development of this year’s BSC Show. Attendance by 1,559 delegates was 24% up on 2009. This compares with a 7% drop in IBC attendances last September and a 9% increase at Broadcast Video Expo this February.

BAFTA How HD is changing hair and makeup seminar

Martin Hammond was drafted in as a co-producer for this spin off from the recent Film and Digital Image Evaluation Road Shows. The event was hosted by BAFTA, Bird’s Eye View Film Festival and Skillset and involved 4 BAFTA award winning hair, make-up and prosthetic design experts. Martin used his established contacts to promote the event and help arrange the host for the day. Martin also gave a brief snapshot of the evaluation results – concentrating on the Close-ups particularly relevant to this topic. The event was over-subscribed.

Glasgow BSC Digital and Film Image Evaluation Road Show

Encounters Film Festival

Martin Hammond acted as VIP Guest Co-ordinator at this year’s Encounters Short Film Festival held in Bristol Watershed Media Centre. In its 15th year it is still the largest short film festival in the UK and the third largest in Europe. Over 1500 international films were available for viewing in the digital library and over 300 were projected across all 3 cinemas during the week long event. Martin Hammond is one of only three individuals who have been involved with all 15 festivals since their conception in 1994.

Jackson Hole Wildife Film Festival 2009

Martin Hammond was a key team member in this year’s highly successful International Wildlife Film Festival in Jackson Hole, Wyoming State, America .

The event was attended by almost 500 delegates from over 23 countries. MJH media took care of the exhibit area, of supervising the downstairs seminar rooms and providing assistance in the organisation and co-ordination of several key networking events prior during and after the festival.

BSC Film and Digital Image Evaluation 2009 - Regional Road Shows

MJHMedia are producing and managing the regional Road Show events for the 2009 Film and Digital Image Evaluation Programme, on behalf of the BSC.

Martin Hammond, Producer of the ‘Evaluation’ and subsequent Road Shows commented… “The BSC Technical Committee is delighted that all of the objectives of their evaluation of film and digital formats are being met. In addition to the unprompted positive feedback from many of the 1,000+ delegates who have attended the Road Shows so far, independent market research is continuing and actions are being taken to fine tune the programmes for the benefit of future attendees. The forthcoming BSC UK and European (mainland) Road Shows include : Glasgow on 22nd September, eDIT 12 Filmmaker´s Festival in Frankfurt on 5th October, Pinewood mid-October (highly technical event), Manchester mid-November, CamerImage in Poland in December, Cardiff in January and Belfast in February 2010.
